The deck is 100% watercolor by Laura Zuspan. I chose this medium for its combination of lush, ethereal, emotional color, and organic accident.

"I was already painting when, as a small child, my maternal grandmother and aunt introduced me to the Tarot and psychic realms. I combined my artistic career with my healing practice at the San Francisco Art Institute while earning a bachelor’s degree, then went on to practice evolving forms of art and mystical practice in New York City, Los Angeles, and the San Francisco Bay Area. In 2014 I created, in my art studio, a dedicated Tarot reading room, and began seeing clients there. This led to the merging of my two passions into an all-encompassing art project.

Mainstream culture has a distorted picture of the Tarot, of flashing neon signs and shady ‘fortune telling'. My practice involves re-contextualizing this ancient art form as an ethical, emotionally intelligent healing practice, viewing the Tarot as a cycle of universal archetypes and symbols, which map human psychology and consciousness. Inspiration for the Luminous Void arose from Tibetan Buddhist concepts of Crazy Wisdom and the Rainbow Body, Trickster Medicine, and mystical Medieval manuscripts, as well as the modern art world. My intention is to create a playful, contemporary, artistic deck infused with spiritual and historical context.

The deck has rounded tops and bottoms resembling medieval playing cards from the 15th century, found at the Cloisters in NYC.

This is a unique deck following its own voice. I really only had so much control over the outcome. My hope is it can induce a state of play, hope and a deepening of your own intuition, insight and wisdom."

Many Queens Tarot is a tarot deck with a more inclusive definition of femininity, beauty, and body image.

The characters in this deck blend the boundaries between gender, sex, family, friendship, shape and size. They celebrate the beauty in our differences and the love we can find in ourselves.

The cards are larger than a typical tarot card at 3.5" x 5." This size will better show off the details of the illustrations.

The cardstock is heavy and high quality at 330 gsm (grams per square meter), black core premium plus. The finish on the cards is varnish to protects the ink and prevents scratches.

The cards come in a two-piece box covered in the eye pattern on the back of the deck. A 16-page booklet with some divination information is included in the box.

Trungles (Trung Le Nguyen) is a Vietnamese American comic book artist and illustrator. His work explores diaspora stories, LGBTQ+ themes, and the role of fairy tales in the popular imagination. He has contributed work for Oni Press, Boom! Studios, Limerence Press, and Image Comics, as well as the blog The Nerds of Color and the podcast Asian America.

The Rider-Waite Tarot is a classic Tarot deck, perhaps the most well-known in the Western world. It is often called the first modern Tarot deck, as the cards drawn by Pamela Colman-Smith and commissioned by Waite were the first to use detailed pictures on the minor arcana cards.

The Herbal Tarot is another Rider-Waite style deck, except it pictures a different herb that corresponds with each card, such as garlic for the Tower, and a lotus in the Ace of Cups. Some herbal knowledge (or the companion book) would be necessary to read with this deck.

Inspired by the magic and wisdom of Russian fairy tales, Tarot of the Golden Wheel interprets traditional tarot through the prism of colorful Slavic folk culture. In this radiant deck the Golden Wheel, a sacred symbol of karma, the sun, and the infinite cycles of life conveys the Fool on his journey through the Major and Minor Arcana.

The creators of Motherpeace Tarot have departed from traditional (and often patriarchal) imagery of tarot, and have instead embraced the goddess spirit. The feminist emphasis is balanced with several male figures present in the deck. Motherpeace’s round cards and primitive artwork allow the reader to rely on intuition rather than standard “black and white” meanings.

German watercolor artist Christine Zillich has created an intriguing Thoth-style tarot deck. This contemporary pocket-sized deck is packed with powerful imagery. The cards in this 78-card deck present Thoth keywords as well as kabbalistic signs. In the 60-page booklet Johan Von Kirschner explains the symbolism and meaning of each card.

The Case book was used a primer by artist Bill Greer in choosing the colors for the Morgan-Greer deck, so as to "create an emotional reaction to each card even before the image could be looked at in depth."
